Robert was appointed at Needham Market FC Academy in early 2015 and brings with him a wealth of experience in the workplace across the spectrum of sport and education. An experienced educator, he has delivered NVQ and BTEC sport qualifications over a number of years. This skill set aligned to his participation in grass roots football over a great many years has ensured that the Academy have in place an individual who understands and is able to facilitate the needs of all of its student athletes. Robert is also the Chairman of Suffolk County Schools’ FA, working closely with schools in Suffolk to maintain boys’ and girls’ county competitions and representative teams. This role alongside being a Suffolk FA Council Member shows his importance to Suffolk football. Robert was also a FA Tutor for five years, delivering Welfare Officer Workshops in the region.
Academy Head Coach
As Head Coach of Needham Market FC Academy, Steve Foley brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role. Steve is one of the biggest and well-known names in coaching and spent all of his career within the professional game. Steve made nearly 300 appearances in the Football League playing as a midfielder for Colchester United. After his playing career, Steve stepped into coaching, firstly coaching at Colchester, working with the young players, and spent several spells as caretaker manager. Steve joined Norwich City in 1996 and spent ten years with the club in various roles. Steve then ventured into a new challenge working with Ipswich Town in various roles including Head Coach and is where he continues to work part time working with all youth teams with the Academy. Steve has taken the role of Head Coach at Needham Market FC Academy to work with younger talented players within the county and maximise their potential and help open doors to reach the highest level of football available. Steve managers the Reserve team but oversees the running of all the teams associated with the Academy.
Arron is a highly thought of coach who brings a wealth of quality to Needham Market FC Academy. Alongside his coaching role at the Academy Arron is currently a coach for Ipswich Town FC Academy and a PE Instructor for Anglia Sports Management working in numerous schools in the local area. He is also the Suffolk County Schools’ FA U15 Boys’ Representative Team Manager demonstrating his high position within local football. Arron has previously coached at Stowmarket Town FC, Brantham Athletic FC and was first team coach for Needham Market first team last season. Arron has also had a good playing career, playing for Braintree Town FC, AFC Sudbury and Brantham Athletic FC. Arron is a UEFA B Licence Coach and looking to enrol onto the UEFA A course.
Ruben has joined the Needham Market FC Academy bringing with him a skill set and knowledge of youth football unsurpassed by any other individual within the Academy. Ruben has vast experience of coaching all levels of the game at Mexico, Cayman Islands and Canada where he has emigrated from with his family. Within those roles he has been Head Coach of the Cayman Islands Women’s National Team and in Canada he was National Regional and Provincial Coach. Ruben has a highly decorated playing career in Mexico and represented his country with one cap. Alongside his role within Needham Market FC Academy, Ruben coaches for Ipswich Town FC Academy and is the Suffolk County Schools’ FA U14 Girls’ Representative Team Manager and has a mix of A and B Coaching Licences.
Jake is a young coach who was an Apprentice with Needham Market FC Academy and showed the skills and potential to develop and progress within coaching. During his second year within the Academy Jake broke into the first team squad and is now a first team regular. Jake is a very enthusiastic young man who wishes to progress within football, both on the pitch and off it. Jake is a level 2 coach who also works for Anglia Sports Management coaching school sport within local schools and is the Assistant Manager for Needham Market’s EJA U18 team.
Tobie is a product of Needham Market FC Academy, developing his skills as an Apprentice and demonstrated the drive and determination to become a coach and start to build a career for himself. Tobie continues to play for Needham Market Reserves, help guiding the players during the week at training and on the pitch at games on a Saturday. Tobie is a level 2 coach who also works for Anglia Sports Management coaching school sport within local schools and is the Assistant Manager for Needham Market’s Thurlow Nunn U18 team.
Academy BTEC Tutor
Matthew Cook was appointed the BTEC Tutor at Needham Market FC Academy in September 2016 having held a similar role at Education and Sports Charity, Inspire Suffolk. Matthew brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role working with the Student Athletes on the BTEC Programme. Matthew who holds a BSc Sports Science with Leisure Management Degree is also a UEFA B Licence Coach and qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach. With this skill set this will enable the programme to grow from strength to strength here at Needham Market FC Academy.
Academy VRQ Tutor
Adam studied Sports and Exercise Science at The University of Essex, and then went on to complete his teacher training in Colchester in 2011. After teaching Physical Education in Manningtree for four years, he taught in Australia for a year before returning to the UK to take up the position of Sports Lecturer at Needham Market FC Academy. Adam plays several sports recreationally, and has over 150 appearances for Brantham Athletic FC. As a youngster, he played at Colchester United until the age of 16 before captaining the Suffolk County Representative team. Adam’s teaching philosophy is that all young people should have the opportunity to experience success in sport and lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
Ian is a practising Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience now running his own practice, Ian has worked for a number of years within a sporting environment, working at Maldon, AFC Sudbury, Heybridge, Leiston and now Needham Market FC. Ian specialises in the rehabilitation aspect of players returning from injury. As a youngster Ian was on the books of Tottenham, Chelsea and Mansfield. When released by Mansfield Ian returned to the area and played locally for Halstead, Brantham, Felixstowe and finally finished his playing career at Chelmsford City.
