Its a reality of being a football manager that you have to make tough decisions but this week I have had to make one of my toughest. Michael Brothers has left Needham Market FC with him deciding to drop down a couple of levels so his football can fit in with a growing family and developing business.
I dont really know where to start to pay tribute to this lad who has played for me at every club that I have managed. We have had bust ups and fell out on numerous occasions but we have also had massive highlights and without a doubt he has been responsible for so many unbelievale memories, and I'd like to share two with you.
I first joined Needham about 13 years ago and in my 3rd season Bruvs joined us and that year we had a great FA Vase adventure which took us to the last 8. In an earlier round we played Potton United in October 2005. Bruvs was dropped probably because we had a row and with 15 minutes to go we were losing 3-1 so I sent on the prodigal son! Not only did he score two goals from 25+ yards, lobbing the opposition keeper on both accounts, to take the game into extra time he scored our 4th and his hatrick in extra time to win the game!
However my greatest memory has to be the best goal I've ever seen from the many teams I've managed and for any Needham fan that was at Chatham on the day we clinched the Ryman Division One North this has to be the best ever Marketmen goal. A cross from the right wing was met with an overhead kick from the edge of the box perfectly executed by Bruvs which gave us a 2-0 lead and cemented the victory.
However, life moves on and that what Bruvs has done. Love him or hate him he's always been box office in my opinion and I'll miss him around the club
Michael Brothers - Needham Legend!
