Sudbury at home

Written by Mark Morsley on .

Tomorrow sees my first home game with a side club I know pretty well, that being AFC Sudbury. Like ourselves they have under performed this term and like myself Michael Shinn has been thrust into the hot seat with Chris Tracey relinquishing his position recently. Shinny is a player I have admired for some time and I was disappointed that he's agreed to stay at Kings Marsh for another season. He would have been a great inspiration to our younger players if he'd joined us but alas that won't happen now; let's hope he's not an inspiration to his team tomorrow.

Regarding ourselves we welcome Duane Wright back from suspension and Keiran Morphew back from injury, they are added to a fully fit squad from the Soham game yesterday.  With a dry but cold day expected we hope for a good crowd and hopefully a decent match.

U18's on off semi final

What a shame that the lads game has been called off today. It's a surprise that Haverhill could not raise a side for a county semi-final and a shame as its better to win through to a final that 'walk' through. Still it's another final for the scholars with the Presidents Cup all ready in the bag so a lively finish to the season.

Soham away

Welcome to the first entry in my blog 'Morsley's Musings'.  This will be something where I can pass on a bit of info regarding the club or maybe just my thoughts on football stuff at Needham and also on other non league matters. Feel free to comment but please keep it clean! The Blog police are watching Cool.

Yesterday was my second game in charge and I'd have to say it was a great improvement on the Waltham Abbey performance on Thursday night.  I've made no secret that these end of season games are going to be used for me and my staff to have a good look at the current personnel which will include a few of the scholars as well.  We will also look at players in different positions to see if they can adapt to changes in team shape.

Yesterday's side had a very youthful attack with all front 4 being academy boys and one of them (Matty Poxon) was named as man of the match. Soham are a robust experienced side who play quite direct. In many ways they place 'mistake football', meaning that they pressurise oppositions into making errors and they capitalise on that.  It's true to say that all 3 of their goals could have been avoided and the first order of business at training this week will be to work on defensive shape and ball retention.

For the record our goals came from the man of the match and Elliot Crow. Both these two and George Clarke showed up well as did skipper Pip Boyland, Jemel Fox and Ollie Fenn.

Great to see the 2nd team gain a 1-0 victoy against Dereham Res and also really good news that Danny Bloomfield has rejoined the club to work with Kev and the scholars on match days.

Sudbury visit Bloomfields tomorrow for my first home game. Both sides have had poor seasons but at times like this with only bragging rights to play for these games are often very lively and I don't expect anything different with this one.
