Needham Market Women kicked off their 24/25 FA Cup campaign with a thumping 6-2 victory over Histon Ladies in the second qualifying round.
It was a blistering start from the hosts who took the lead within eight minutes. Lucy Loomes picked the ball up on the edge of the box and fired home for the perfect start.
Becca Stephenson made it two after 15 minutes. She found the top corner brilliantly after being put through by Cate Jackson.
Stephenson then scored a second in as many minutes. She was put through once again and rifled the ball into the roof of the net, leaving the Histon goalkeeper no chance.
Loomes got back in on the action with a stunning goal. She found space 25 yards out and went alone, by finding the top corner with perfection. Confidence was flowing through the Needham attack.
Then it was two goals in two minutes once again. Stephenson got her hat-trick with a smart low finish into the far bottom corner. A stunning forward display in the first half an hour.
Histon got a goal back shortly after, with the Needham defence finding themselves complacent.
Jess McCrae made no mistake from six yards out following a ball into the box.
Eight minutes after the restart, Stephenson scored again. Annie Posnet played the forward in on goal who slotted the ball under the ‘keeper for her fourth of the afternoon.
Histon had another goal back 77 minutes in following a defensive error by the Needham defence.
The hosts then held out their four goal advantage to secure a spot in the third qualifying round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup.
Needham Market Women’s Development side capped off a fine afternoon in Suffolk with a 10-1 win away at Copelstonians. Goals from Poppy N, Immy, Hannah, Elisa, Poppy D and Jess secured Alex Parry’s side a spot in the next round of the League Cup.
Needham Market Women are back in league action next, hosting Watford development in the Eastern Region Premier Division on the 29th of September.
