Needham Market's first ever home game in the Vanarama National League North ended in a harsh 2-1 defeat at home to Southport.
Kevin Horlock's side made one change with captain Keiran Morphew replacing Jacob Lay - who started on the bench alongside summer signing Harley Curtis - with Ollie Fraser and Dylan Williams dropping out of the matchday squad.
Like last week's trip to Curzon Ashton, the Marketmen held their own for the majority of the game, creating plenty of chances in a positive performance against a side who took their main chances well.
Both teams started brightly, with Luke Ingram finding Jamie McGrath inside the box, but Southport cleared before Tevan Allen could get a shot at goal, after 30 seconds.
At the other end, an important save from Marcus Garnham thwarted the visitors in the 3rd minute, Daniel Lloyd-McGoldrick was found in space, outside the box, whose first time shot was swatted over well by the Needham 'keeper.
Two minutes later, Tevan Allen looked to feed Jamie McGrath through onto the left-hand side of the box, but Renshaw was off his line quickly to gather, before McGrath tried his luck at goal from the left-hand edge of the box but saw his shot go just wide of the bottom near corner in the 12th minute.
Lloyd-McGoldrick then broke through down the left-hand side before seeing his shot deflected before Tommy Smith was well placed to head it off the goal-line on 14 minutes.
Patient, but clever passing, play from the Marketmen saw Kyle Hammond arrive outside on the right-hand side, of the box but the midfielder's ferocious low shot went just wide into the side-netting on 21 minutes.
The Marketmen arguably had the better of the first half, with a foul on Luke Ingram in a dangerous position on the right-hand edge of the box seeing Philliskirk receive the only caution of the afternoon, though the resulting set-piece was headed narrowly wide of the bottom far corner on 33 minutes.
The Marketmen then made history with their first ever National League North goal in stunning style, Kyle Hammond curled an exquisite free-kick that cleverly found the top far, right-hand corner, after a foul on Adam Mills just outside the box on 43 minutes.
Marcus Garnham though was alert to preserve his side's lead going into the interval, pushing away a cross-shot at his near, left-hand, post a minute later.
After the restart, Needham continued to create great changes to try and double their advantage, albeit the home side were unable to do so.
Luke Ingram was adjudged to be in an offside position as his effort hit the crossbar on 53 minutes, while great work from Jamie McGrath earned Horlock's side a corner - which saw Allen's set-piece pushed away by the keeper under pressure from McGrath.
The visitors however found an equaliser, Lloyd-McGoldrick broke through down the left-hand side before finding the bottom far corner in clinical fashion, albeit arguably harsh on the home side, making it 1-1 on 65 minutes.
The Reds almost restored their lead a minute later, goalscorer Kyle Hammond looked to add to his first half strike with what would've been another swell hit, spectacular strike. The midfielder spotted the keeper off his line, albeit Renshaw back peddled in time to leap up and tip the goalbound strike over his crossbar.
The Marketmen went close again, Ingram won possession back high up the right wing, the winger then fed McFratj through into the box, who spun smartly before proceeding onto the right-hand side of the box to clip an audacious cross into Adam Mills, arriving at close range, but the ball just evaded the leaping forward.
Needham then made their first change with Tevan Allen making way for Needham debutant Harley Curtis on 73 minutes, before goalscorer Hammond blocked a low shot at goal a minute later.
Lloyd-McGoldrick then saw a free-kick blocked by the wall on 76 minutes, as both teams hunted for the winner - in a game that arguably a draw would've been a fair result.
Great defending from the Marketmen saw an acrobatic Southport effort close to goal, on the left-hand side, blocked then saved well by Garnham, before Adam Morphew was well placed to block Lloyd-McGoldrick's shot behind for a corner on 77 minutes.
The Marketmen went agonisingly close to retaking the lead two minutes later, Harley Curtis won possession well just outside the visitors' box before feeding Seth Chambers - fresh off the bench in place of Mills - through inside the area, whose strike beat the keeper and was destined to nestle into the bottom far, right-hand, corner before the defender tracked back to clear it crucially off the line.
Chambers then glanced a right wing cross narrowly wide of the far post a minute later, before a defensive mistake proved decisive in the 81st minute.
Southport would travel home with all these points as Proctor beat Garnham to net into an empty net from point blank range.
Needham again looked to respond to the set-back, Ben Hunter - making his home Needham debut - broke through onto the left-hand side before cleverly cutting it back to Hammond but this time the latter shot just wide of the top far corner.
A good performance ended in vain as the Marketmen look ahead to Tuesday's home clash with Scunthorpe United at the Ecologic Stadium Bloomfields (7:45pm).
