DEFEAT ON THE ROAD

Billy Kee's second half header on the rebound proves the difference for hosts Coalville Town as Needham Market suffer defeat on the road.

Manager Kevin Horlock made 3 changes to last Saturday's 1-1 draw at St Ives Town, Jacob Lay (started on the bench), Taylor Clark (injured) and Ross Crane (suspended) made way for Jamie McGrath, Tom Fitzgerald and Patrick Brothers (back from suspension), with Noah Collard back on the bench following a one game suspension.

There was really very little notable action of note throughout the game, though the Ravens arguably had the better chances despite the Marketmen looking good in large spells of possession.

Geor Wilson had the first chance for the home side in the seventh minute, thrashing a fierce strike on the right-hand edge of the box a centremetre wide of the bottom far corner.Needham meanwhile had a great chance 7 minutes later, a dangerous free-kick was headed back across goal to Dan Morphew who sliced his close range volley, which was blocked by a defender.

After Luke Ingram saw his shot from the right-hand edge of the box blocked, nobody in Needham's yellow away kit was around to benefit from Kyle Hammond's dangerous right wing cross into the six yard box with goalkeeper White able to catch with ease on his goalline on 18 minutes.

The Marketmen then had another great chance on the half-hour mark, Jake Dye broke through down the left-hand side of the box, although his dangerous low ball across the six yard box, in towards Jamie McGrath, forced a Coalville defender to crucially  clear it behind for a corner.

Down the other end, the home side drew a routine save out of Needham goalkeeper Marcus Garnham six minutes later, Luke Shaw's left wing cross in found Billy Kee free from close range whose flick towards goal was straight st Garnham. Two minutes later, Kee leapt highest to head Putman's cross from distance out on the left wing back across goal and just wide of the top left-hand corner.

Garnham meanwhile was alert to fly backwards to tip a dangerously swinging right wing corner into his six yard box at his far post in what was the final chance of the first half on 44 minutes.Neither goalkeeper still wasn't really troubled in the second half, though Luke Ingram fired wide on the half-volley of the near post from the right-hand edge of the box just five minutes after the restart.

Coalville on the other hand glanced a right wing cross wide at the far post two minutes later, just sixty seconds before Kee netted what proved to be the only goal of the afternoon.

A left wing corner was fired back across goal from close range by Putman, forcing Garnham down well to his right-hand side to beat away the former's strike but only as far as Kee who headed home from point blank range. However, after the referee pointed to the penalty spot after a foul on Jamie McGrath, who looked to latch onto Noah Collard's defence splitting pass after 71 mnutes, Luke Ingram was denied by the woodwork with the resulting spot-kick a minute later.

Having sent White the wrong way, the forward's effort crashed back into play off the right-hand face of the crossbar.Marcus Garnham was alert to spare Dan Morphew's blushes, quickly clearing the defender's stray pass back off his goal-line in the 77th minute.Patrick Brothers then fired over from dangerous free-kick from 30-yards out 8 minutes later, while a fierce low shot was well denied by Garnham at the other end in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Needham meanwhile had a good chance with the last kick of the game two minutes later, a great free-kick into the six yard box was flicked on at goal by Dan Morphew at the near post, albeit straight at White wh held onto the effort.

Needham will look to bounce back from the defeat on Saturday when they travel to Stourbridge for their fourth away game in a row (3pm) ahead of two home games inside a week against Hednesford Town (Tuesday 6th December, 7:45pm) and AFC Rushden & Diamonds (on the Saturday, 1pm).
