FRUSTRATING AFTERNOON FOR THE MARKETMEN

Marine edged a fairly evenly matched encounter 1-0 at the Ecologic Stadium Bloomfields.

Needham though forced the first save in the 4th minute after Ingram latched onto a long ball only to fire straight at Andrew Wogan.

Josh Tomlinson headed a great cross agonisingly over on 20 minutes, while Luke Ingram couldn't direct Tevan Allen's corner goalwards.

Ten minutes later, Needham went close again, Keiran Morphew threaded Ingram one on one with a great defence splitting pass but the forward couldn't connect.

Ingram then headed just wide from another Allen corner on 42 minutes.

While Garnham denied Fin Sinclair-Smith at the expense of corner, Chris Doyle poked home the decisive goal inside a minute of the restart.

Reggie Lambe saw a shot briefly parried by Wogan on 50 minutes, before Ted Collis fired into the 'keeper's chest 11 minutes later.

Substitute Seth Chambers saw a shot held by the diving keeper on 69 minutes, before Collis shot just wide of the bottom corner 3 minutes later.

Manager Tom Rothery reflects on yesterday's game.

DK: Frustrating day at the office?

TR: Yeah, quite a scrappy game I thought. Always was going to be, the pitch, the wind, obviously both teams fighting. Yeah, I didn't think there was much in the game really.

Teddy had a big chance in the first half. Luke had a couple of headers in the first half and then we huffed and puffed, but the goal really put us on the back foot. Really scrappy goal.

And then after that, like I said, we huffed and puffed, we changed shape. But yeah, we had a couple of moments, but nothing I can't really think of a big chance other than Teddy's in the whole game really, if I'm honest.

It's three points. Like I've just said to the players though, I always worry about games like this, everyone over-emphasises the fact that it's a massive game.

They're all big games. Winning today and we lose the next day doesn't keep us in the league. So, they're all big games.

That's three points obviously we haven't got or a point or whatever we could have come away with. We've now got to move on to Tuesday to Scarborough and simple as that. I don't believe in this six-pointer and this game's massive.

They're all massive. We've got 10 games now. We've got to win a number of them to stay in the league, simple as that.

Like I said, I do think the conditions have played a part in that. I think they're normally a good footballing side. They play on a 3G.

They've obviously found it hard to play any football today. Maybe give us a little bit of credit for that but also the conditions haven't helped them. And then from our point of view, I thought we tried to play in the first half.

We tried to play a little bit in the second half.

Obviously, we changed shape. That probably affected that a little bit but I thought we tried to play but it's just very tough on a very windy day on a bobbly pitch.

It's very hard to try and play phases of play and how you really want to play your football. So, sometimes you've got to battle and make sure you come out with the right result and unfortunately, we haven't.

DK: Onto Tuesday, a very long trip up to Scarborough.

TR: Yeah, another one. They're all long trips. So, yeah, it's another tough one.

Like I said to the players, we've got to dust off being negative tonight. We've got to turn up to every game... We've got to turn up every game positive and try and get three points. It's as simple as that.

DK: What kind of game are you expecting?

TR: Different to today because it's 3G. So, the surface will be... I know they're 3G.

They've had problems with it but the surface will be a little bit better than it was today. So, that will allow us to play. They will try and play as well.

So, look, we've just got to turn up and do as best we can and see where that takes us. But obviously, we'll go there trying to get three points.
