MARCO DEPARTS

The club can confirm that goalkeeper Marcus Garnham will leave the club following Monday's (21st April) home game with King's Lynn Town.

Marcus joined the club in 2019, and leaves having won four straight Suffolk Premier Cups with the club, including keeping 21 clean sheets enroute to the Marketmen's historic Southern League Premier Central title winning season last season.

The stopper rapidly made over 200 appearances for the Marketmen, as well as making himself known as one of the best goalkeepers in non-league football.

Marcus also made a name for himself as a penalty specialist, notably saving four - including the last 3 and smashing home the decisive one himself into the top corner - to defeat Yeovil Town in our record FA Trophy run in 2022.

Speaking about his departure, Garnham said, "I would like to thank the lads you are the reason I have enjoyed my football so much the past few years. I also wanted to thank everyone single supporter for the kindness and love you have shown me since I have been at this club.

"I wish Needham all the success going forward and wish I could continue with you, but it is not meant to be."

Manager Tom Rothery said, "A thank you to Marco for what he’s done for the club in my time. When I rejoined I hadn’t worked with Marco but knew of him and in those nearly six years he’s been outstanding for us and given me my favourite moment in my career in all the years I’ve managed, coached or played. The day at Yeovil will take some topping the saves he made in the penalty shoot out three times to save us losing in the shoot out then stepping up and ripping one into the top corner was just an unbelievable moment. He’s been outstanding for us in all that time and I really don’t believe we’d have achieved or won what we had without him. I wish him and his family all the best in whatever comes next for him and wherever he joins will be lucky to have him."

The club would like to thank Marcus for his efforts while at the club and wish him all the best for the future. Make sure to buy a copy of Monday's matchday programme to read more from our No.1.
