MARKETMEN RECORD BIGGEST STEP 2 WIN

Needham Market jump out of the relegation zone following a brilliant 6-1 win at Farsley Celtic.

Manager Tom Rothery made 2 changes to Tuesday's defeat at Brackley, Kyle Hammond and Charlie Wood (on the bench) were replaced by Seth Chambers and Jamie McGrath.

The result makes it 3 wins from their last 5 matches, with Needham controlling the majority of the possession - creating the better chances.

Farsley keeper William Brook was tested in the fifth minute, claiming Tommy Smith's clever left wing cross into the danger area.

Needham meanwhile broke the deadlock five minutes later, after MOTM Iffy Allen's cutback was partially cleared from Tevan Allen's through-ball down the right wing, Jacob Lay's smart driving run and low cross was tapped home into the bottom right-hand corner, by the St Albans' loanee for his maiden Needham goal.

Needham continued their good start, forcing Brook into a good low save on 12 minutes, goalscorer Iffy Allen beat his man as he broke onto the left-hand side but for his low shot to be well held by the 'keeper at his near post.

The Marketmen soon doubled their lead deservedly in the 20th minute, goalkeeper Josh Blunkell's long kick was flicked on by Iffy Allen onto Seth Chambers in acres of space down the right wing to hold his man expertly to shot across goal, where Cole Hyde couldn't prevent it from crossing the line.

Needham remained on the front foot as Tevan Allen's left wing intelligent cross was headed over by a defender at the near post, denying Chambers a clear sight at goal on 28 minutes.

While Brook punched away the resulting corner, Chambers was denied by a smart save from Brook on 32 minutes. After being released one on one onto the edge of the box, the striker's shot was smothered behind the top far corner by the onrushing 'stopper.

Rothery's side almost added a third in the 34th minute, Tevan Allen's clever right wing corner flashed dangerously across the face of goal with no red shirts able to provide the finishing touch.

At the other end, Farsley had a half-chance three minutes later as João Silva drove into space before firing comfortably wide from distance.

Farsley though halved the deficit going into the interval, rather against the run of play, as Robbie Fox drove into space before smashing home into the top right-hand corner in the 41st minute.

Farsley then curled a ferocious 35-yard free-kick just wide of the top far corner two minutes later, before good pressure from Needham forced Harry Sheridan to rush his clearance which cannoned back into play off the inside base of his bottom far, right-hand, corner on 44 minutes.

The Suffolk side almost restored their 2 goal advantage in the third minute of first half stoppage time. Tevan Allen's right wing corner saw a crucial defensive block prevent another own goal.

After the restart, Needham continued to look dangerous every time they attacked, with Seth Chambers having appeals for a penalty dismissed by the referee inside a minute of the second half.

A pivotal block by Rudy Misambo diverted Reggie Lambe's near post header behind for a corner, after a pinpoint cross from Iffy Allen on 52 minutes, before the latter doubled his tally a minute later with an audacious finish.

Iffy Allen exploited space on the edge of the box to curl a stunning strike into the top left-hand corner.

The away side remained in the ascendency on 55 minutes, great play saw Ben Hunter drive into space and thread Reggie Lambe whose cross into the box saw a defender deny Seth Chambers a certain goal from two yards out.

Jacob Lay meanwhile saw a low cross-shot blocked away by Brook at his near, left-hand, post two minutes later, followed by Seth Chambers' thunderous strike being well held by the stopper moments later.

Needham however tripled their advantage on 59 minutes, Iffy Allen added a second assist to his two goals, whipping an excellent right wing cross into Reggie Lambe in acres of space to effortlessly head home into the bottom right-hand corner.

It was soon 5-1 three minutes later as Keiran Morphew intercepted possession brilliantly to thread Seth Chambers through down the right-hand side to rifle home into the bottom far corner.

Iffy Allen then made way for Brackley Town loanee Liam Cross, with the latter's clever right wing cross headed agonisingly wide by Seth Chambers on 66 minutes.

Young midfielder Charlie Wood replaced Ben Hunter for his second first team appearance, before Needham rounded off the scoring on 77 minutes. Tevan Allen's audacious right wing cross picked out Liam Cross at close range to head home just second goal for the club.

Josh Blunkell though was forced into a smart save inside the final ten minutes, narrowing the angle well to smother a shot, followed by Cross and Tevan Allen both seeing low crosses on a plate flash across the face of goal on 86 minutes.

Chambers was slotted through on goal down the right-hand side four minutes later, only for his shot to be blocked away well by Brook.

Jacob Lay fired a half-volley over in the first of four additional minutes as Needham wrapped up a fantastic team performance on the road.

Needham return to the Ecologic Stadium Bloomfields on Tuesday when Hereford visit (7:45pm).

Iffy Allen reflects on today's win.

DK: A win and two more goals for you for the club, you must be delighted.

IA: Yeah, I'm happy to get two goals, but more so it's important to get the win.

DK: You guys put in a great shift, and that goal you scored for the second was absolutely brilliant.

IA: Yeah, when you cut it back, it was banging. Top pins, can't complain. It was just more so about getting the win. The boys put in a shift, three points.

DK: How have you found it with us so far?

IA: Yeah, I'm loving it. I'm loving it. I'm enjoying my time. The boys are good. They welcomed me. It's just, yeah, I'm enjoying it.

Manager Tom Rothery reflects on today's win at Farsley.

DK: A brilliant, clinical win today you must be pleased?

TR: Yeh obviously really pleased not just with the result but the performance.

DK: Six well taken goals, which must make it all the sweeter?

TR: Tuesday was a case of same again really due to the quick turnaround from Saturday and everything that had happened. But we met Thursday and spoke about some small tweaks I wanted to make which I feel will help us control games and carry more threat. I think anyone who was here today would say that happened. I want us to be front footed and I thought the lads were excellent throughout in doing that and off the back of that it allowed us more entries into the box.

DK: What pleased you most today?

TR: Just the lads discipline and focus to deliver a performance and show that bravery in a huge game was really pleasing.

DK: Today was our biggest win at step 2, what a way to get it?!

TR: The biggest thing from today is we’ve got ourselves above that line we haven’t had an opportunity to do that before Tuesday in 3/4 months. But it’s a nice way to do it and helps the goal difference a bit and gives everyone, players, supporters anyone involved with the club a little lift.

DK: Back at home on TV Tuesday against Hereford, what are you expecting from the game?

TR: We know now every game at this level is difficult. Hereford are a huge club former football league so we have massive respect for that and them. But the message from me will be simple, front foot.
