UP FOR THE CUP

“It’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.

The famous quote from Neil Armstrong as he became the first human in history to step on the moon is an apt quote as it is a ‘giant leap’ for Needham Market Women this weekend.

Five years into our journey and we suddenly make the biggest jump in our short history by taking our place in the FA Cup 1st round proper for the very first time this weekend.

The win over 7th Tier Harpenden in the 3rd qualifying round made history for this brilliant group but we hope that this fun doesn’t come to an end this Sunday.

What a chance the team have to grasp another piece of history!

To be drawn away against fellow Tier 5 and Eastern Regional Prem rivals - Bowers and Pitsea – is winnable but then they will see it the same making it a close cup tie to call.

The stats back that up too as both teams sit on 12 points in fourth and fifth in the table, while Bowers have scored two more goals, Needham have conceded four less meaning there is very little between them.

But we must be confident that our girls, who have done so much so far, can get over this line and continue this epic journey.

The squad has had to cope with an unprecedented injury list but has coped remarkably well in maintaining a strong start to our first campaign at Tier 5 level.

But now the injuries are clearing, and manager Warren Lewis-Claxton now has extra options for what can only be described as the biggest game in the club’s history.

We hope to see as many of you make the journey down the A12 for the 3pm kick off to cheer on this remarkable team but if you can’t, the game will be broadcast live over both club’s social media platforms.

All we can say now is COME ON NEEDHAM.

This is our time!
