Supporters are understandably concerned as to when the new stand will become a reality, hopefully you all find this information helpful.
The proposed new 280 seater stand, designed by local architect Ian Smillie incorporates new turnstiles, press box, toilets, catering facilities, secure storage area, 2 hospitality suites, dedicated provision for up to 4 wheel chair users, their carers, and a disabled access lift to the main concourse.
Planning consent was granted by Mid Suffolk District Council on August 27th this year subject to various conditions. This includes a secure covered cycle storage area, a net 5% biodiversity gain which we will achieve by having a small memorial garden in memory of Derick Bloomfield and a tree planting programme on the north eastern boundary.
The next step was to obtain 3 quotations for the whole of the works which includes demolition of the existing stand, moving of the central floodlight column, new concrete base, connections to existing services such as electric, water, surface water, sewerage and internet / data. This has now been completed so we know our preferred contractor and the costs involved.
Next step is raising the considerable sums involved, there are obviously various grants available to help fund a project of this scale and over the past few weeks the committee have been actively engaged with various stakeholders to obtain the maximum amount of grant aid possible. Having said that, there will still be a shortfall which will mean funding from other sources such as donations, directors loans or bank borrowing over a fixed term.
From start to finish the estimated construction time is 11 weeks, in reality, the construction period on site will be less, as most of the fabrication work will commence off site whilst the season is still in progress allowing uninterrupted use of the stadium.
Most supporters will be aware of our requirement to upgrade the existing stadium infrastructure to meet Step 2 level of football, but with such a large project to deliver, conversations have been held with the league and agreement reached on a timetable that is achievable.
NMFC continually strives to improve the spectator experience, the club shop and "The Shed" catering facility being the latest examples and more recently the fantastic new rehabilitation and physio building.
However, the proposed new stand will be truly special and hopefully we will still be watching step 2 football when sitting in there next season.
